HOKUM
Ever since I heard this word, I am rather interested in finding live examples of it. Hokum means "Meaningless nonsense with an outward appearance of being impressive and legitimate". Lets find some examples of it!
Fresh out of college, on my first day to job in corporate world as a software engineer, I got a warm 'welcome quote' on corporate from a very dear friend, I can't write that as it may seem offensive to many. In other words quote said 'Corporate is Hokum'. After spending almost 3 years I am quite agreed to it. Two distinct fraternities in a software industry are developers and managers. One using whole of their brains to get the real work done, other trying to manage these brainies and business. Both group fight with each-other as the opposition seem to be not according to them, rather I should say Hokum in their perceptions. Management is always concentrated to get profits out of development work no matter how hard it is to do in a set period of time, development on the other hand is always brain consuming tough job which nearly demands scope of schedule variance in the development plans. Irony is, it actually is always missing. Outcome is voices with "Managers = Hokum", "Developers = Hokum" with same reasons in their minds that 'They(opposition) can't do their work properly' !! To me this is a never-ending game, we are destined to fight. Today I fight as a developer; someday i'll be a manager thinking in the same way, pressurized by top notch guys to generate profitability. I don't know whether their will be any option to reduce this tussle. Currently I figured out the best statement to keep you safe in this corporate and that's CYA, you might be calling it c you again; I say it 'Cover Your Ass'. Same example can be applied to every work field, same it is.
Being a huge music/movie bug, i take it as another example. You love to listen/watch something that belongs to your favourite genre, other's are like piece of crap to you. Ask with the creators (some of the best music/movie makes in current times) they too fight in a similar fashion. Talk of studies, science lovers treat other as hokum, others do the same. Every where I see is a word flying 'HOKUM'.
Well is Hokum related to perception of a being or perception itself is hokum? Mind circling into some odd loops after it. Only way it possibly ends is when the human race face obliteration ! What if reincarnation is not a hokum and a truth ? We are stuck in an infinite loop to get born and then again re-think like this only and then die to get re-borned !!
